この冬は、年末から年始にかけてかなり暖かい日が続きました。そのせいか、桜のつぼみもなかなか大きくならず、このまま咲かずに終わってしまうのかと心配しましたが、1月中旬から冬らしい寒さが戻ってきました。1月下旬の桜まつりが始まる頃には、ちらほらとピンクの花が枝に付き始め、冬の沖縄を鮮やかに彩っています。

金武町中川の桜並木
Cherry Blossom Avenue of Nakagawa in Kin Town
国道58号線を北上して恩納村安冨祖から県道104号線へ右折して、喜瀬武原の集落へ向かって行きます。しばらく走ると、喜瀬武原を抜けて金武町へ入り、少し広い交差点で中川方面へ左折します。
並木道沿いに残る、懐かしい人には懐かしい「金武村」の標識！あたりに緑が広がる、のどかな集落の脇の小さな川を渡ると、道の両脇に色鮮やかなヒカンザクラが咲いています。片側一車線の道路は、交通量も少ないのでゆっくりと桜を眺めながら運転できるお気に入りのドライブコースです。
If you are driving on Route 104 in Kisenbaru, Onna Village towards east, take left turn at the wide intersection towards Nakagawa, Kin Town. There are cherry trees with pink blossoms along both sides of the quiet road. I enjoy driving on this road especially early in the morning.
名護城公園「桜の園」
Cherry Blossom Garden in Nangusuku Park
やんばるの桜の名所の一つとしておなじみの名護城公園（なんぐすくこうえん）の「桜の園」は桜を眺めながら散策するには絶好の場所です。
丘の斜面にある桜の園のふもとに車を止めると、頭上高く桜の木が枝を伸ばしているのが見えます。そして遊歩道の階段を登って、鮮やかなピンクの花を付けた桜の木々の間をゆっくりと歩きます。
途中に東屋もあるので、天気の良い日はお弁当を持ってきてピクニックをするのも楽しいでしょう。ピンクに染まった斜面とその向こうに広がる名護市街地と東シナ海を見下ろす眺めは最高です！
桜の園を登りつめて、高台の上の方まで足を延ばせば、おしゃれなビジターセンター「Subaco」でコーヒーを飲みながらこの景色を満喫できます。
Best place to see cherry blossoms and stroll around is Cherry Blossom Garden in Nangusuku (Nago Castle) Park. You can actually get off your car and walk around garden full of cherry trees without worrying about cars coming behind you. You can also enjoy the view of Nago City and the East China Sea from the garden. There is a visitor center with a cute cafe called “Subaco (birdhouse)” on top of the hill as well.
八重岳の桜
Cherry Blossoms of Yaedake Mountain
沖縄で「桜」と言えば、八重岳を思い浮かべる人も多いかと思います。毎年1月下旬から2月上旬にかけて開催される「本部八重岳桜まつり」でもおなじみの場所です。
この頃、週末に八重岳の坂道に車が連なる光景も、今や、やんばるの冬の風物詩（？）となっていますが、やはりふもとから山頂へかけて咲き誇る八重岳のヒカンザクラは見ごたえがあります。沖縄にある多くの公園や並木道に植えられている桜に比べて樹齢が古いようで、花も枝にぎっしりとつき、何よりもその枝ぶりが見事です！
見物客が比較的少ない平日に行くチャンスがあれば、お花見（ここでは本土のような宴会は行えません）におすすめの場所です。
Motobu Yaedake Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year between the end of January and the beginning of February. The trees along the road from the bottom to the top of Yaedake mountain is truly amazing. It is better to visit the place during the week days when there are not so many cars going up the hill.
今帰仁城跡の夜桜
Cherry Blossoms at Night in Nakijin Castle
世界遺産の今帰仁城跡では、第10回「今帰仁グスク桜まつり」が開催されています（1月28日～2月12日）。今帰仁グスク桜まつりの目玉は、なんと言っても、まつり期間中毎日ライトアップされる夜桜とグスクです。
悠久の歴史を刻む城壁とその周囲に咲き誇る桜が幻想的な光の中に浮かびあがります。桜まつり期間中はライトアップの他、北山王・王妃記念撮影、琉装体験（先着10名）、今帰仁グスク芸能披露などが週末に行われます。
2月11日（土）はちょうど満月です。天気に恵まれれば、「荒城の月」さながらに、空に浮かぶ月とライトアップされた今帰仁城跡、桜をめでる事ができるかもしれません。
Nakijin Castle was designated as one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Okinawa in year 2000. This year, the 10th Annual “Nakijin Castle Cherry Festival” is held between 28 January and 12 February. During the festival, castle walls and cherry blossoms will be illuminated at night and many interesting events will be held on weekends; taking pictures of King and Queen of Hokuzan (King who ruled northern area of Okinawa island before establishment of the Ryukyu Kingdom), dressing up in Ryukyuan costume (first 10 persons), and performances of traditional performing arts and etc.
